Pulitzer prize winning, Philadelphia-based editorial cartoonist, Signe Wilkinson, will visit as a Rankin-Scholar-In-Residence on Thursday, January 18 for a public lecture, free and open to the public, from 6:30-9PM in the URBN Annex Screening Room.
 
Wilkinson is first female cartoonist to win the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 1992. She landed her first full-time job at The San Jose Mercury News, and in 1985 left to begin working at the Philadelphia Daily News where she's contentedly drawn under four editors, four publishers, and four different owners ever since. In 2009, Wilkinson launched the daily and Sunday strip Family Tree. You can see Wilkinson's editorial cartoons here. On Friday, January 19, Wilkinson will lead workshop in cartooning with Westphal students, with details forthcoming. 

Wilkinson's published two compilations, Abortion Cartoons on Demand in 1992, and One Nation, Under Surveillance in 2005. She's had works featured in Sex and Sensibilities in 2008 and in two different gardening books; You Bet Your Tomatoes and Mike McGrath's Book of Compost. She served as president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists from 1994-1995.
